What does one need to brush up to become a tire specialist?



There are several automobiles in the US and other parts of the world. All of these automobiles have one thing in common; they all travel on tires. Tire business is huge in this world because of this reason. You need to know how to prepare if you are planning to work in this field of work.

Tire technicians install, repair, and balance and rotate tires for passenger and commercial tires.  They inspect tires for wear, patch some tires and make sure they are properly inflated.


Special treatment is required for some tires. Depending on the season, some tires are studded for special traction on snow and ice.  Technicians also need to retread the previously worn tires.


Tire technicians can also take inventory along with other functions like maintaining tire repair equipment and selling tires.


You need to have a high school diploma or equivalent in order to be a tire technician. Employers look for those who have had enough discipline to take care of that part of their education.


Most require you to have some experience in the tire business.  Other will give you on the job training until you become proficient enough to run the business for yourself.


A tire technician also needs to have good customer service skills. Your customer is the most important thing to you. You always need to meet all their requirements. You want to make sure you can communicate effectively so you understand and can meet your customerÕs needs.



As you need to work with mechanical things, mechanical aptitude is an added advantage. You will be operating tire changing machines and tire balancers.  Now days, almost everything in a business is done with computer support.  Computers are used for inventory, payroll, and billing. It is necessary for you to have some basic computer skills to work in the tire business.


You need to work with minimal supervision. Tire business is an extremely busy one. You are a member of a team and you must be able to apply your skills while others are busy doing other things.


Heavy lifting is also a part of the job. If you want this as your vocation, you should be able to do that lifting when required.  You need to be able to do it safely as well.


It is also necessary for you to have a driverÕs license. You also need to have a clean driving record.


You can get up to $16 per hour in this industry. You can also start working on your own business. In order to be a tire technician you need to have all the above mentioned qualities. You need to help the customers whenever they want your help. With a little education, you can be working in this exciting business helping drivers to maintain safe and working vehicles.
